Clint Eastwood's new film American Sniper is to be shown for the first time at the AFI Festival.
The Navy SEAL drama - starring Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller and directed by Clint - is to get a limited release on December 25 before its January opening, in order to qualify it for the 2015 Oscar nominations, Deadline reported.
The news came as it was announced American Sniper is the secret screening at the AFI Fest, and a sneak peek of the movie will take place tonight (November 11) at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
The film has been adapted from Kyle's book, American Sniper: The Autobiography Of The Most Lethal Sniper In US Military History. It tells the story of the expert marksman, who was killed by a discharged war veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
AFI president Bob Gazzale said in a statement: "Clint Eastwood is an American icon. His are stories that stand the test of time, and we are proud and honoured to unveil his latest masterpiece."
