Woody Allen joked he might kill himself if fans didn't like his films

Woody Allen has joked that if French audiences didn't like his next two films he would kill himself.

The US director attended the Paris Film Festival to introduce a screening of You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger.

Speaking in broken French, Allen told the audience: "If you hate this film, I'm going to start a new film. If you hate both, I'm going to kill myself."

After finishing publicity for You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, which stars Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Antonio Banderas, Allen starts shooting Midnight In Paris, which will include an appearance by French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
