Woody Allen's new film starring Carla Bruni-Sarkozy will be the opening night movie at the Cannes Film Festival.

Midnight in Paris marks the acting debut of France's first lady, who has a minor role in the film.

The romantic comedy also stars Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Kathy Bates and Adrien Brody.

Woody's film will screen at Cannes and throughout France on May 11.

The 75-year-old New Yorker is a regular at the festival, and in 2002 the event gave him a special achievement award.
