Alice Eve is being lined up for Star Trek 2, according to reports.

Variety said that the British actress is expected to play a new character in the highly-anticipated sequel.

Other names which have already been linked to the film, being directed by JJ Abrams, include Benicio del Toro, who could play a villain.

She's Out of My League star Alice, the daughter of actors Trevor Eve and Sharon Maughan, was most recently seen in the last season of TV series Entourage.

She also played Charlotte's Irish nanny in Sex And The City 2.

Most of the cast from the previous Star Trek instalment, directed by the same filmmaker, are expected to return, including Chris Pine, Simon Pegg and Zachary Quinto.

The first film in the rebooted franchise became a box office hit in 2009.

Production is expected to start on the sequel in early 2012 and the film is set for release in May 2013.
