Al Pacino could soon be starring as an ageing rocker in Imagine.
The Godfather star is in talks to star in the new film, written and directed by Dan Fogelman, reported Variety.
Steve Carell had been set to appear as his son, but had to decline the role after scheduling conflicts.
The film will focus on Pacino's character, a rocker who decides to track down his estranged biological son after finding a letter written to him by the Beatles' John Lennon.
Imagine marks Dan's directorial debut, following his writing credits on Disney's Tangled and Crazy Stupid Love, the upcoming comedy featuring Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling.
Pacino - who won Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actor Guild awards for his portrayal of the late assisted suicide activist Dr Jack Kevorkian in TV film You Don't Know Jack - is attached to play mobster Neil Dellacroce in Gotti: The Three Generations alongside Jack Travolta.
