Ben Affleck has revealed he is taking a relaxed attitude to the expectation placed on him as the new Batman.

The 42-year-old actor was asked by the Today show's Matt Lauer how he felt about the mixed reaction from fans when it was announced he would be playing the Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman movie.

Ben - whose last superhero outing as Daredevil in 2003 was a box office flop - said: "We have these cultural stories that people have attachments to. They care very much about it, the fans have imagined it, they write fan fiction, and they get very into it and they're certainly entitled to those feelings.

"This is the movie that more than any other movie combined, people come up to me and are really excited about.

"So to have all this attention, some of it is positive, and some of it is negative, I think in the end the truth is, you make the movie and the movie works or it doesn't."

The actor and director - who is currently promoting David Fincher's Gone Girl in which he stars as a man suspected of killing his missing wife - also revealed how much his new Batsuit had cost for the movie.

He told US show Live with Kelly and Michael: "I asked them, 'So, how about maybe taking the suit home at the end of this thing?

"They were like, 'For 100,000 dollars we could!'."

And Ben admitted he did feel some pressure when it came to bulking up for the role.

He said: "Audiences have an increasing expectation. You see guys like Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans and all these guys whose bodies are just like, you think, 'How is that even possible?!' So, exercising is as much of the job now in some ways as the rest of it."
