Adele could be belting out Dusty Springfield songs on the big screen, after being reported to be "in early talks" to star in an upcoming film.

The Oscar-winning Skyfall songstress is said to be in early discussions to make her big-screen debut by portraying the late soul singer, who had hits in the 60s with Son Of A Preacher Man, Wishin' And Hopin' and You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, in a forthcoming biopic.

"There's a project - and it's true Adele is attached - but it's in an early stage of development," an insider told the Daily Mail.

The film, which Boardwalk Empire's David Stenn would write, would explore Dusty's experiences as she reinvented herself in 1968, after she moved to Memphis to work with producers at Atlantic Records for her album Dusty In Memphis.

No director is attached yet, with production expected to start in late 2014 or 2015.

Adele, whose full name is Adele Adkins, sang the title track from the 23rd James Bond film, but has yet to make the move over to acting, although she is rumoured to make a cameo in Matthew Vaughn's new film Secret Service.

The 25-year-old, who gave birth to son Angelo in October 2012, is also reported to be working on her third album.
