Abrams' Earthquake movie rumbles on
JJ Abrams has commissioned Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black to write the screenplay for his disaster movie Earthquake.
The Lost creator's Earthquake has been rumbling along since 2008 but Deadline reports a big step forward in the project as Black - who wrote biopics Milk and J Edgar - has been signed up for the screenplay.
The Omen's David Seltzer was previously attached as writer when the project was first set up with Universal.
JJ is producing but has not yet been confirmed to direct.
It has been revealed the film will not be a remake on the 1974 movie, Earthquake, starring Charlton Heston.
The blockbuster will be a rival to New Line's planned 3D earthquake movie, currently titled San Andreas 3D.
