A gourmet cameo for Binchy in Tara Road
AUTHOR Maeve Binchy is to have a cameo role in the film of her bestseller Tara Road, which is currently shooting in Dublin.
The production, starring Andie McDowell, Stephen Rea and Brenda Fricker is being shot in Caviston's deli and restaurant in Glasthule, south Dublin this weekend.
The film, which is being produced by Noel Pearson, will see the Joycean landmark transformed into a New York deli. Glasthule itself will be closed to traffic on Sunday and Monday.
Of her role Binchy joked "It will be a restaurant scene, something I would be quite good at, sitting down and eating."
The book was selected as 'one to read' by Oprah Winfrey which increased its appeal in the US.
The film also features Olivia Williams of Rushmore fame and comedian Ruby Wax. Tara Road is expected to reach cinemas in about a year's time.
Out in Glasthule, locals were concerned that Cavistons had been sold, given that the sign over the door reads John and Terry's gourmet food store. "I told one woman we sold the place while my father was asleep," said owner Peter Caviston.
