A host of celebrities are returning to Scotland to take part in an annual golf tournament.

Part of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship sees some of the world's best professional golfers paired with famous amateur players in a competition played at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns courses.

Actors Andy Garcia and Hugh Grant will join musicians Huey Lewis and Don Felder, Riverdance star Michael Flatley and other famous faces at the Fife courses next week.

Rock star Lewis, who will be playing in the tournament during a tour of the US and UK with his band The News, said: "It is the amateur equivalent of the Open Championship, wonderful courses, great format.

"It's my favourite tournament. I love the banter with the galleries. Everything they say about golf fans in Scotland is true. If you hit a good shot, you'll get applause."

Past winners of the team competition include DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans and majority Celtic shareholder and Irish businessman Dermot Desmond.

The championship also has an individual tournament for professional players which was won last year by South African Branden Grace.

This year, major winners such as Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington and Paul Lawrie are among the professionals taking part.

Entrance to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is free at all three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week, with tickets £20 at St Andrews on the Sunday.
