At 2pm on May 24, 2015, Marty Morrissey was in the car on his way to commentate on a match between Clare and Limerick in the Munster hurling championship. Suddenly his phone started hopping.

It was his employers at RTÉ telling him not to pick up any calls coming from numbers he didn’t know. Pundit Joe Brolly had been previewing the Ulster Championship game between Cavan and Monaghan on RTÉ’s The Sunday Game and had referred to Cavan’s football as being “as ugly as Marty Morrissey”.
