Love/Hate's John joins Nidge again in Citizen Charlie
AN actor has credited Love/Hate with landing him his first non-traveller role.
Coolock man John Connors is one of the stars of Citizen Charlie -- RTE's €3.7m drama starring Aidan Gillen.
Connors was last seen getting the better of Nidge as the pipe bomb-maker in Love/Hate.
Now the 23-year-old will be working with actor Tom Vaughan- Lawlor again in the political drama in which the Nidge actor plays PJ Mara.
"I'm in the middle of shooting it. I can't say anything about who I'm playing, other than it's a non-traveller part which is brand new to me. I'm really excited," Connors told Voice Of The Traveller magazine.
The Love/Hate part came about when he was introduced to writer Stuart Carolan at the Galway Film Fleadh.
"Stuart approached me and said he'd seen two of my films, King Of The Travellers and Stalker," he said.
"He told me he liked my performances and wanted me to be in the next series."
But the Navan man told Connors he had no idea who he would play in the TV show. "I didn't take this too seriously as people in the film industry didn't always keep their word," he added.
"Four months later Stuart called me back and said 'I have it John'.
"'I'm bringing you back as the fella who gave Nidge the pipe bomb. It's the perfect role.'"
Connors, who trained at the Abbey School of Drama, says he has had huge support from fellow travellers since Love/Hate aired.
"My community are proud of me and think it is great I got the role," he said.
No transmission date has been given yet for the new three-part Haughey drama.
