Classic children’s toy, Lego, has earned a new wave of fans after competition show Lego Masters made its debut.

The Channel 4 programme saw children and grown ups – including Oxbridge engineering students – go head to head as they completed a series of building challenges with the popular multi-coloured plastic bricks.

The teams of two entered a room containing around one million blocks and set to work putting their design and engineering skills to the test, with one task requiring them to create an entirely Lego feast, complete with functional chair.

The stunning results blew both presenter Melvin Odoom and viewers away, prompting a wave of nostalgia.

One viewer commented over Twitter: “Never liked playing with #lego but #LEGOMASTERS might change this. Fab program showing true creativity & #teamwork”.

Another added: “Watching #LEGOMASTERS it’s the the bake off but better and with lego,” while one wrote that Lego has “never been so dramatic.”

Lego Masters continues on Channel 4 next Thursday at 8pm.
