Lady Gaga brings Oscars to a standstill with incredible 'Sound of Music' performance
Lady Gaga sings, Chris Pine cries and Dame Julie Andrew appears - it was the kind of performance that Oscar dreams are made of.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of iconic musical The Sound of Music, Lady Gaga gave a powerful rendition of the titular theme song, and a mash-up performance of the film's score.
The popstar, known for her avant garde fashion sense and larger-than-life stage persona, reminded an international audience that she is first and foremost an incredibly talented vocalist.
To coincide with her important moment performing on stage, the newly engaged star enlisted the help of stylist Brandon Maxwell to ensure her outfit was suitably unique.
The duo opted for a custom made, embellished Alaia gown, which took 25 people over two weeks to complete.
“Gaga and I talked a lot about this moment, how much it means to her, and how much it means to me both as a fashion lover and fan of the Oscars,” Maxwell said.
“She and I have spent a lot of time with Mr. Alaïa in his home,” he added, “and we really wanted to choose someone we have a powerful friendship with to share this moment with us.”
I love how many people are just now realizing, after years of proof, how vocally gifted @ladygaga is. Always a fave. Always a fave.— Ben J. Pierce (@BenJPierce) February 23, 2015
