'Kenny's exit forced the rest of us to raise the bar', says Joe Duffy

Legendary broadcaster Joe Duffy has revealed that the departure of Pat Kenny from RTE has forced others to up their game.

Duffy praised his pal's decision to leave the national broadcaster as it was the right thing for him.

"Pat and I were colleagues for over 20 years since I joined the station," he explained to TV Now magazine.

"I was totally shocked, but he got a better offer and decided it was worth it. I've no doubt he was worth it because he is a brilliant broadcaster/ It's raised the bar for everyone."

And Joe went on to commend radio in general, which is seeing its reach among the Irish people continue to grow.

"Radio in Ireland is on fire at the moment. 99% of people will hear some radio at some stage on any given day," he said.

"You can't say that about any other medium. So in that sense, it's been a brilliant year for radio.
