Jessie J pulls out of Phoenix Park gig
She has cancelled her appearance due to illness, while The Coronas fill in for her hours after playing for the President.
Singer Jessie J has cancelled her performance at the Phoenix Park tonight supporting Justin Timberlake, due to illness. She pulled out of a last minute appearance at RTE 2FM yesterday for The Rick O'Shea Show, and is now too unwell to perform this evening.
The Coronas will now fill in for her, just hours after performing an intimate gig for President Michael D. Higgins and will become the only band to ever play the Phoenix Park twice in the same day.
Jessie J disappointed 2fm yesterday when she cancelled an appearance on The Rick O'Shea Show to "rest her voice", despite the fact that she appeared on Today FM earlier in the day.
As 150 fans eagerly waited outside Montrose studios to catch a glimpse of Jessie, 25, before her scheduled appearance on the afternoon show, her manager Cez Darke broke the news that she would not be coming. Several of those waiting to see her had been competition winners.
15 minutes before she was due to arrive, Mr Darke explained that she needed to "rest her voice" ahead of tonight's concert at the Phoenix Park, where she is supporting headliner Justin Timberlake. Jessie was billed to perform a special acoustic set of select songs and 2FM had begun a major social networking campaigning promoting the coup.
However, earlier in the day, Jessie J made a trip to Today FM studios on Digges Lane in Dublin and happily posed for photos with fans - including Ray D'Arcy, whose show she was appearing on to promote the concert. She did not perform.
The Price Tag singer expressed her regret at missing the interview at the state broadcaster on Twitter last night. "Just want to say sorry to all the heartbeats at @RTE2fm for being unable to come," she began. "My voice has decided to be friends with the air con today and dry out to Marge Simpson vibes!" Jessie tweeted.
