Irish beauty Sarah misses out on BINTM crown
IT was a case of so close yet so far for Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model finalist Sarah Kennedy.
The Donegal beauty was beaten into second place in last night's highly charged final.
Sarah (23) had been tipped to win the ninth series of the popular Sky Living show after charming the judges.
But she was pipped to the post by exotic Lauren Lambert from St Lucia, who came out on top with her solid performances in the weekly photo shoots. Sarah put on a brave face after the result was revealed alongside English model Emma Ward, who was joint runner-up.
"In that very moment, my heart did drop and I thought to myself, 'what do I do now?'" Sarah said.
"But I just said to myself, 'this is just a challenge that I have to get over and I have to work twice as hard now'."
The winner was chosen last night after the girls were put through their paces with a photo shoot followed by a catwalk show in Barbados in front of supermodel Elle MacPherson and fellow judges Dannii Minogue and Tyson Beckford.
Sarah said the final catwalk show was nerve-wracking. "It was one of those moments that was so surreal," Sarah said.
Despite her disappointment, Sarah says she was delighted to have made it to the final three and described the defeat as a "tiny, minor setback".
And the future is bright for the chatty model with catwalk domination in fashion capitals like Milan, London and Paris her next ambition.
"I'm already moving to London," she said. "I'm hoping to sign up with a model agency as soon as possible."
It was a good year for the Irish representatives on the top model show. Dubliner Holly Carpenter finished the competition in seventh.
