Irish band 5th base ready to impress X Factor judges
THEY have been dubbed the next One Direction but X Factor judges warned them they needed to up their game.
Now Irish talent show finalists 5th Base look set to go all the way in the upcoming ITV show after wowing audiences in Dublin on Thursday.
Headlining the Village on Wexford Street, the five- man band were keen to show off their new dance moves after weeks spent polishing their act.
The show was the first step in preparation for the next X Factor auditions which take place in front of a live audience in London this summer.
"It was like they were like a different band. They really upped their game," said one gig-goer.
"Louis and the X Factor judges are going to see a huge improvement."
It was last May that members Dean Gibbons (22), Jason Cafolla (21), Darren Regazzoli (22), Shane Thornton (19) and Chris Leonard (18) turned up at auditions for the tenth anniversary series of X Factor -- with 2,000 other hopefuls in Glasgow's SEC earlier this year.
After getting through three rounds of auditions, they were asked to return to sing in front of the judges weeks later.
However, their luck ran out in early June when they attempted an acapella version of Change Your Life by Little Mix.
The panel of Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh uniformly blasted them over their presentation.
"Since then they have been working with choreographers to come up with something more polished, it seems to have worked," an insider said.
Originally called Level 5, the group have been making a name for themselves in Ireland during the past year, performing at last year's Cheerio's Childline concert.
They also took to the stage at Niall Horan's 19th birthday bash in Mullingar.
They later celebrated their first headline show since their makeover at Indie Dhaba restaurant in Dublin.
