TJ O'Grady-Peyton

Age: 37.

Born: Bray.

Wanting more: Tomás Joseph, otherwise known as TJ, makes big-budget ads for brands like Volkswagen, adidas and Peloton. We are talking epic storytelling. He’s about to do a new one for Nivea with Liverpool FC’s manager Jürgen Klopp. Like so many in advertising, he is bursting with ambition. “I’ve made my third short film and I want to make a feature film,” he says.

In good company: Lots of great directors, such as Ridley Scott, started off in ads and many still continue to make them alongside their films. Broken: A Lockdown Story is TJ’s latest short. “We wanted to make a fairy tale, a bit like a Roald Dahl with heightened reality. Then it ends up a kitchen-sink drama.”

Helpful: They filmed it in Offaly and got great help from the film council there. They were driven around and shown a selection of perfect sites for the shoot. “We wanted it to be visually a bit like a Wes Anderson film.”

Beautifully bizarre: Intriguing, and with wonderful music, catch it at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival, which starts on Wednesday and runs until March 6, see diff.ie.
