Insider Thursday is fast approaching...

In this week's editor's blog, Vicki Notaro talks the gorgeous Ms Jolie, this Thursday's issue and her picks of what's hot and trending this week.

I don't know about you, but I'm prone to the odd woman crush.

I would say girl crush, but there's nothing girlish about the latest object of my affections, Angelina Jolie. She of the razor sharp cheekbones, charitable endeavours and incredible talent is gracing the cover of INSIDER this Thursday, and I couldn't be more delighted. Before the magazine was even born (forgive me, it's my baby), I was on the phone to Disney telling them I needed Ms Jolie on the cover, and my wish was granted. She sat down with our writer Stephen Milton in London to talk everything from Domhnall Gleeson to Brad and the kids, and obviously taking on the iconic villain that is Maleficent.

Because INSIDER is your guide to both staying in and going out this coming weekend, it'd be foolish not to mention the massive One Direction gigs taking over Croke Park for three nights from Friday. Sure, 1D are not exactly our demographic, but I'd wager Croker won’t just be populated by screaming tweens and angst-ridden teens. I bet a good few of you will have bums on seats for the concerts and won’t even be a bit ashamed about it – although some will go in the guise of chaperoning the little ones, I bet.

Don’t pretend you don’t have a favourite member of 1D. Harry’s boldness and snappy dressing and Zayn’s soulful eyes would get to anyone. But the most interesting one to me, and the one to watch should 1D ever (gasp!) peak and go their separate ways, is our very own Niall Horan.

I was at Niall’s audition for X Factor in Dublin’s convention centre in the summerof 2010, not cruising for young talent I might add, but stalking, I mean admiring my beloved girl crush Cheryl Cole. The standard on the day was as one might imagine – not good – and while Niall wasn’t the best singer, he stood out as a cheeky chappie, boldly flirting with Chezza and guest judge Katy Perry. I wasn’t surprised when months later he was chosen to be a member of One Direction and the rest, as they say, is pop history.

Now 20 and by all accounts, a bit of a fine thing, he’s pally with Queen Elizabeth and David Beckham, rumoured to be dating pop stars and supermodels, and has a lovely new set of teeth. When he takes to the stage this weekend, the screams shall no doubt reverberate around Dublin.

In this week’s edition, Sean Moncrieff has penned a column wondering if a man such as himself with a fondness for the female form can really call himself a feminist, while Ian McKellen tells us of the social conscience and metaphor for “otherness” behind the X Men franchise. As always, we have the latest from Twitter sensation @BoringKearney, in which the lads are excited for the local elections. We explain the TV phenomenon Gogglebox and ponder the Irish version coming soon to TV3. We also examine just why Kim Kardashian has climbed to the top of the celebrity tree ahead of her wedding to Kanye West this weekend, and pick our top ten greatest comic book movies ever made.

On a more serious note, Tanya Sweeney investigates that most puzzling of relationship issues – the one that got away – and asks the experts how to knock romantic nostalgia on the head, while Jessica O’Sullivan examines why we’re buying our first home later in life, and the necessary steps to ensuring you’re mortgage worthy.

All that plus news and reviews, food, fashion, beauty, tech, interiors and much more, INSIDER is your guide to the coming week, whether you’re staying in, going out or leaving on a jet plane for pastures sunny, so don't forget to pick it up!

1 MAC x Kelly Osbourne

I'm not the biggest fan of the purple haired one, but few could deny that the Osbournes and MAC are a match made in heaven. I've had a sneek peak of the collection, and the Kelly Yum Yum bluish-magenta is kind to teeth and perfect for festival season. Keep an eye on the mag next week for a proper review, the line lands in June exclusive to Brown Thomas, BT2 and

2 Kimye's Paris outings

Their nuptials are slated for Saturday and they're hanging out in France's capital city all week (alongside Kim's famous family), but who knows where and when the actual ceremony will take place? I for one am enjoying the veritable fashion show the duo are putting on around Paris, and sightings of cute curly haired baby North West.

3 X-Men: Days Of Future Past

The latest installment in the X-Men franchise, helmed by original director Bryan Singer, lands in cinemas tomorrow. We chat to Ian McKellen in the magazine, but I for one am looking forward to seeing our former cover star Michael Fassbender playing the younger Magneto once more. Raaarrr etc.
