I'm having time of my life working my dream TV job in LA - Irish model Ruth O'Neill
MODEL Ruth O'Neill has said the "cut throat" newsroom at ABC was the best preparation she could have asked for as a budding presenter.
The Castleknock native (26) landed her "dream job" at glamorous US TV channel E! -- home to the hit reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians -- last March, after nearly two years covering hard-hitting politics for ABC.
And while she found it "tough" to carve out a career in television in California, after giving up a busy modelling schedule in Ireland, Ruth told the Herald she's having the time of her life in her current post.
"I'm there full time, five days a week, and it's fantastic," she said. "It's so different to ABC News; that was a real cut throat tough newsroom. But I built up a thick skin there.
"The hours were nuts; sometimes working all through the night and sleeping all day.
"Obviously the stories I worked on there and the ones I work on now are worlds apart too."
One of Ruth's first assignments for E! was at the unveiling of the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, where the Oscars are set to be held for the next 20 years.
"Before, my day was all about politics, foreign policy, crime, or tragedy -- now I live in world showbiz," she said.
