Here's actor Pierce Brosnan's other profession - and he's excellent
Actor Pierce Brosnan, best known for his James Bond films, is also a talented artist.
The Navan man spends his free time between film shoots at the easel, and often paints gifts for his wife Keely Shaye Smith.
Brosnan, who first pursued art when he left school, counts the greats like Picasso, Matisse, Bonnard and Kandinsky as his influences.
His romantically titled Bisou Moi (Kiss Me) painting was given to Keely as a present on Valentine’s Day.
While his landscape painting "Fiji" was created for Keely in 1995 over a Christmas holiday.
"Pierce occasionally sells his original artwork and donates reproductions of his original artwork to help raise money for his favorite charities,” according to his website.
Profits from the sale of his Giclee prints are given to the Brosnan Trust, which distributes money to environmental, children’s and women’s health charities.
“I always wanted to be an artist, a painter. I started as a trainee artist in a small studio in South London,” he says on his website.
Eventually he abandoned his artwork to pursue an acting career, but he took up painting again in the late 1980's during his first wife’s illness.
"Sometimes dramatic moments affect the way you see yourself in the world," he says.
"I started painting again and out came every color (sic).”
