Now’s the time to plan your New Year’s Eve – here’s what’s on
The prospect of venturing outside on New Year's Eve is a daunting one, but if you fancy avoiding the queues outside your local, and ringing in the New Year in a little more style, book one of these events and make it a night to remember. From the traditional New Year's Eve ball to dancing in front of the Titanic's spectacular staircase, to a cuddle party, there's something for everyone.
DUBLIN
New Year’s Festival
The 3Countdown Concert at Custom House Quay is a highlight of this New Year’s Eve celebrations with the brilliant Gavin James headlining and delivering the countdown, and support from Hudson Taylor, Wild Youth and up-and-coming rockers Inhaler.
Tickets are €29.90 and include entry to the Liffey Lights Midnight event which promises to ring in the new year in spectacular fashion from 11.30pm with a light show and choreography of lasers and aqua beams. Live DJs and percussionists will perform on the water in time with the display.
For those with little ones, there’s an earlier Liffey Lights Midnight Moment matinee performance from 6pm, leading to a countdown spectacle at 7pm. Tickets are free but must be booked via Ticketmaster.
The Golden Age of Parties at The Grayson
The venue at No 41 St Stephen’s Green overlooks the green itself. Back in 1745 the owner Ms Ruth Croker was renowned for throwing rather fabulous parties and you can channel some of that glamour and fun on New Year’s Eve with dancing under the Atrium with tunes from DJ Sam Lowther.

Throw some shapes with two legends of Irish clubbing from 10pm. What better way to welcome the New Year?

Year End Cuddle Party with Irish Cuddle Salon
Christmas can be a lonely and difficult time for many while others are brimming with joy and love they’re willing to share so this event may offer the perfect pairing. The official synopsis explains, “A Cuddle Party is a non-sexual, experiential, consensual touch and communication event - part workshop, part social gathering. It is an opportunity for you to experiment with and practice consensual, non-sexual touch in a safe, comfortable environment facilitated by an experienced and certified touch professional.”
Randy Ralston is hosting the event at Common Ground in Bray from 7pm to 10.30pm on New Year’s Eve, tickets €25, and space is limited to 20 people, adults only. For more information and tickets go HERE
New Year’s Eve with Mik Pyro and Friends, Live at Whelan’s
Kicking off at 8.30pm the night will see Republic of Loose star Mik playing tracks from his upcoming debut solo album and hits from the band’s back catalogue. There is also the promise of some very special guest appearances on the night. Also there’s Whelan’s Indie Club with late bar from 10.30pm and there are bands playing The Midnight Hour in the upstairs venue. Free entry via front door until 10.30pm

Hothouse Flowers at Cork Opera House
The legendary Hothouse Flowers are paying Cork Opera House on the night. They showcased new material from their new album Let’s Do This Thing on their recent UK tour and fans will be treated to these and hits from their almost four decades on the scene ahead of New Year’s Eve.

Cork’s Christmas Festival boasts Christmas markets, music, lights and games until 4pm on New Year’s Eve for those with smallies in tow. It’s free entry into the market and with a small charge for the Ferris Wheel and Carousel.
BELFAST
New Year at Titanic Belfast
Get dressed up in your cocktail finery and enjoy a cocktail on arrival and a light supper before taking to the dancefloor in front of the stunning Titanic staircase with music from a live band and midnight piper followed by DJ.

I Heart NYE: Big Top Party
Cultural hub The Metropolitan Arts Centre is hosting a party with pop-up circus performers, karaoke in the upstairs theatre and live music from the house band. £17 per person.
The Great Room at the Merchant Hotel
If you really want to feel like a star this NYE then dinner in the opulent Great Room at the Merchant ticks the box. The first sitting from 6.30pm to 8.30pm includes three courses and a glass of bubbly (£69.50 per person) and the second sitting from 9pm (£99.50 per person) includes five courses and a glass of bubbly. Entertainment comes courtesy of the house DJ.
The Merchant also boasts Berts Jazz Bar with an early evening sitting with four course supper and glass of bubbly with live jazz pianist (£55 per person) or a late cabaret sitting for £99.50.
A more affordable option is to opt for drinks only at Ollie’s Club – advance tickets are £10 or £15 on the door.

Le Boom and guests at the Roisin Dubh

Sweet Hearts New Year’s Eve Charity Gala Ball
The five star Savoy Hotel in Limerick is hosting a black tie shindig with dinner, dancing, live Jazz Lite band, and DJ and funds raised will go to the Irish Heart Foundation so you’re doing your bit while you party. Tickets €100 per person from Eventbrite.
