The video rental chain has added a new line-up of games for next-gen consoles.

From Friday the 6th of February, gamers will be able to rent out a number of top games for Xbox One and Playstation 4.

€10 will get you a title for three nights, which, when considering games regularly cost €70, may be worth the expense for games that have received mix reviews. Take Alien:Isolation for example, a game slammed by some critics and named game of the year by others. Three nights may be enough to make up your mind.

With playable game demos and betas becoming standard practice for big name game releases, the "try before you buy" argument may be weakened, but there's also the weekend treat market, with hours of gameplay offering better value for money than a once-off movie.

Xtra-vision say all the latest PS4 and Xbox One releases will be available, name checking the likes of Evolve, FIFA 15, Rugby 2015 and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare.

Barry Fogarty, Games Buyer at Xtra-vision said “Since the next gen consoles launched, we’ve received a huge amount of interest in next gen rental from customers in our branches around the country.”

“We’re delighted to be able to deliver this new service at such a competitive price to Irish gaming fans.  As the only place in Ireland to offer next gen games rental, we’re sure it’ll go down well with all the gamers out there.”

Whether physical rentals still have a place in a market moving more and more towards digital remains to be seen, but Irish gamers now have another choice and that has to be welcomed.
