Nothing says alternate reality dystopia like a forced "thank you" speech from a small frightened child.
Homefront: The Revolution, a new first person shooter from Deep Silver, looks to be a game that will resonate globally.
Set in a near-future alternate reality, a humanitarian crisis has brought the United States to its knees and a globally dominant Korean corporation has the country under its armed control.
The corporation has more advanced weaponry and use surveillance drones and armed patrols to keep the population in-line. With the shoe on the other-foot so to speak, America is now at the mercy of the new tech savvy overlords. But, as is the way with these things, shoots of resistance are sprouting and the game focuses on Philadelphia as the fight grows.
The scene is set for guerrilla warfare in an urban American setting, one no doubt familiar but unsettlingly off.
It's going to be interesting to see how the developers deal with the narrative in this one. Will it be an excuse for blatant American patriotism, or will the game be aware of the irony of the US finding themselves occupies by a more advanced military might.
Certainly the trailer above is hitting some strong notes and the potential for a great story is there.
Homefront: The Revolution is due for an early Spring 2016 release on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Mac and Linux.
