PlayStation 4: Sony calls off Chinese release plan for console
Sony is delaying its plan to release the PlayStation 4 in China because of various factors, it has said.
The console was set to be released on January 11, but the company has delayed the launch because of “various factors”, the company said in a statement.
The company said in a statement that a new sale date had not yet been determined, according to Reuters.
Both Sony and Microsoft have been trying to get their games consoles into the huge but difficult Chinese market. Doing so has involved tweaking the console to allow authorities to censor it.
Sony announced months ago that it would launch the PlayStation in the country, and then gave further details on the release in December. That was when it said the January 11 launch date.
Sony said earlier this year that the console will be produced through two joint ventures with Chinese companies — one focused on hardware and the other on software.
Xbox has already arrived in the country, launching in China four months ago.
