Call of Duty Black Ops 3's Zombie mode looks deliciously good
Black Ops traditional co-op zombie mode appears to have taken a major step up for the third installment.
The co-op mode, named "Shadows of Evil", was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con and features far more extra content than the "oh no! Zombies!" survival fare of previous incarnations.
Treyarch, the original Blops Zombies developers, are back at the helm and have apparently created a rich narrative experience.
Mark Lamia, Studio Head at Treyarch said, "The development team has packed Shadows of Evil with more gameplay and fun than any other experience before it and has an appropriately twisted and deep narrative, performed by fantastic acting talent, that will keep our fans spinning."
As testament to the pursuit of a more story driven zombies experience, Treyarch have managed to get some big names in for the cast. Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neil McDonough, Ron Perlman and Robert Picardo combine to form a cast that will see multiple fandoms collide and embrace.
The cast fit into a tale set in a 1940s film-noir world, where four very different characters have to survive the challenges created by a mysterious antagonist, all while trying to unravel the story and ultimately stomp his ass.
The characters all have quite different play styles, as the names suggest: The Magician, The Femme-Fatale, The Cop and The Boxer. Different skillsets are going to add an extra level of strategy to the classic zombies co-op fun.
Another extra splodge of fun comes in the shape of a candy machine that deals out magical powers, with one colour even giving the user deadly tentacles that aid in decapitating some Z melons.
Although the test is always in the actual playthrough, it's good to see the developers are trying something new, rather than sticking with a straightforward zombie co-op add-on, which would have been the easy and perhaps expected route.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III is released worldwide on the 6th of November 2015 for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and Xbox One.
