This year’s Electric Picnic is set to be the greenest yet due to a series of new eco-friendly measures.

Environmental group Friends of the Earth are offering festival goers the chance to earn their ticket for next year by encouraging them to pick up after themselves, or anyone else around them.

A new ‘cup deposit’ system is being introduced - 20 cent will be paid for each cup returned after its use.

Collect 1100 cups and that is your ticket for next year sorted.

“Deposit refund stations will be positioned adjacent to the three main bars located in the arena, and will be marked clearly on the site map, making collection of the deposits an easy task or a simple way to earn some cash towards your next drink or snack,” the group said.

Other festivals that have incorporating this system have seen an average of 80 pc of cups have been returned to the recycling stations.
