Leaky tents and hot tubs: Minister Varadkar reveals the highs and lows of his Electric Picnic weekend
When you go to a music festival, you're probably expecting to slum it a little bit.
But Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar wasn't expecting the 'basic' standards of Electric Picnic's boutique camping area.
And Saturday's rainy weather probably did nothing to help the situation either.
"Being here for the weekend, the lowlight was being in a leaky tent which wasn't too pleasant," Minister Varadkar told Independent.ie.
"I was in the boutique camping area but it was a tent on a slope, with no electricity and no mattresses, so it was pretty basic.
"But it was fine," he added.
The highlight of the minister's weekend was the Chemical Brothers' performance, as well as his Sunday morning dip in the festival's hot tubs.
"Chemical Brothers were very good on Friday night. Hermitage Green, who I've never heard of before, that was a great gig," he said.
"Also, I was at this very strange thing down in Body & Soul. A girl band sing-along thing. Yeah, I did [get involved] a bit," he laughed.
"I was also in the hot tubs which was very refreshing."
When asked about the current state of affairs with Apple, he added: "I came here from the cabinet meeting, so I was doing my job.
"But it was a nice weekend before I get into the very serious business."
