Pirates are set to invade the capital's quayside as part of a unique maritime festival that will include free tours on the Jeanie Johnson, kayaking sessions on the Liffey and cruises around Dublin Bay.

Three tall ships and four schooners dominated the skyline as they landed at North Wall Quay yesterday.

Now in its third year and still growing, the Dublin Port Riverfest is aiming to attract 65,000 visitors over the bank holiday weekend and expects to contribute a €1m boost to the local economy.

Land activities including circus street performers, music from a unique Irish/Nigerian band, as well as face-painting and children's workshops.
