Garda clampdown on boozing ahead of Phoenix Park gigs
GARDAI say they will implement a zero tolerance policy towards alcohol among concert goers on their way into three gigs in the Phoenix Park next week.
Officers warned today that a series of searches will be carried out in the Park and surrounding areas and all alcohol, drugs or potential weapons will be confiscated on the spot.
They pointed out that alcohol would be available for sale on the festival site but could not be brought in from outside.
A ban on private vehicle parking in the Park is also being imposed.
More than 200 gardai will be on duty, compared with 150 for last year’s Swedish House Mafia concert which resulted in drink-fuelled violence.
Headline acts at the gigs on Wednesday, tomorrow week and Sunday week are Justin Timberlake, The Killers and Mumford and Sons, respectively.
