A hapless car mechanic, a man who spurted water from his body and a silent brass band - these were just some of the colourful performers at Waterford's Spraoi.

Tens of thousands turned out for the annual international street arts festival parade, where the city's maritime and coastal heritage was celebrated in the theme 'Source to the Sea'.

Last night concluded with an epic parade through the streets followed by a fireworks display.

The whole weekend of festivities was underscored by music in many forms, on the streets and in the pubs.

This year there was also a huge focus on science and maths with demonstrations explaining the work of renowned scientist and Waterford son Robert Boyle.

Spraoi theatre company is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
