Battle for the Bay watersports festival 2015 hitting Dollymount this weekend

Sun, sand, surf and kites are the order of the day at this year's Battle for the Bay Watersports Festival at Dollymount Strand in Dublin.

The strand will play host to a leg of this year's Kit Boardercross Championships as well as the Stand-up Paddy Boarding Competition.

The festival, running tomorrow Saturday May 23 and Sunday 24 will see kite surfers from all over the world descending to showcase their spectacular skills and compete for the King or Queen of the Bay crown.

This year will feature race and freestyle competitions, with riders performing daring technical tricks and feats.

Boardercross is a mix of freestyling and racing which will bring a unique format of the competitors together on the starting line for a slalom style fight that is fast and furious involving jumping water obstacles.

The festival is free with entry from 10.30am to 6pm and as well as the kite surfing pros, there will be demos from Pure Magic on the beach, freestyle shows, paddle boarding, wakeboarding and kite surfing introductions for newcomers.

There will also be live music from bands including Loneshark, Anti-One Cornered, The Boy, Julyo, Beware Of You, Fever Solstice, Gary O'Neill, Fiona Lennon, Popgun Warfare and David King.

Surfers confirmed to attend are Jade O’Connor (IRE) ranked #5 in the world, Katie McAnena (IRE), Peter Kosinski(IRE) and Nick Davies (UK).

The annual Paddle Boarding Competition (SUPing, or Stand Up Paddle boarding) will also take place as part of the Battle of the Bay.

As well as individual races there will be team relay races, a technical 6km and gruelling 14km Marathon.  The Battle will also invade the River Liffey and the race will start at 8am on Sunday.
