Eamonn Holmes hangs up his Sky News hat – ‘NOT’
Irish journalist Eamonn Holmes alluded to his departure from his role on Sky News Sunrise via Twitter this afternoon – and then quickly quashed the self-started rumour as untrue.
In a curious series of tweets, the multi award-winning broadcaster from Northern Ireland seemed to try and trick his Twitter followers into believing he was leaving the breakfast show.
“I have happily presented Sky News Sunrise for 8 years now, and sometimes there is a time when you just know that it's right to move on...” the 53-year-old first tweeted.
The ‘cliffhanger’ was quickly followed with: “But this is NOT that time. I'm afraid you will be waking up to me on Freeview 82, Ch 11 Pick TV and Sky 501 for the next few years”.
Holmes joined Sky News in 2005 to present the Sky News Sunrise programme, initially hosting alongside Lorna Dunkley. Charlotte Hawkins later filled Dunkley’s role as co-presenter on the show.
ITV have apparently been attempting to lure the veteran TV figure away from Sky News – and this may explain the practical joke played by Holmes.
But while some of the responding twitterati seemed amused by the windup, the one-sided exchange seems somewhat pointless.
