Coronation Street viewers are rallying behind Craig Tinker after he took matters into his own hands to bring evil policeman Neil to justice.

He braved serious threats from his own mentor in the ITV soap as he stood up for his friend, grooming victim Bethany Platt, and managed to secretly record Neil’s whole confession on his phone.

Previously, Neil (Ben Cartwright) raped Bethany (Lucy Fallon) with the help of his friend and her creepy ex boyfriend, Nathan.

But after it became clear in Friday’s episode that Craig (Colson Smith) suspected him, Neil forced his young junior into the car, grabbed him by the face and spat: “If you don’t keep your big mouth I will do a lot more to your little girlfriend, Bethany, than I did the last time”.

But fans of the ITV soap took to Twitter to support Craig’s bold move, with some warning him not to fall for Neil’s lies and others sharing their hopes that it would finally bring down Neil and Nathan.

Craig’s actions mark a fresh step in the sexual exploitation storyline that has dominated the long-running soap this year.

On Thursday, Cartwright appeared on ITV’s Lorraine and admitted: “I’m married, got a young family, I had major concern on how it would impact on me as a person.”
