Cork cellist wins scholarship to one of the US's most prestigious arts schools

CELLIST Sinead O'Halloran, 18, from Blackrock, Cork, winner of Top Security's Fr Frank Maher Music Awards for sixth year post-primary students, has now won a two-year scholarship to attend the world-famous Meadows School of the Arts in Dallas, Texas. Joe Doyle, general manager of Top Security Cork, presented Sinead with a €2,000 bursary to go towards her travelling and living expenses.

The school is one of the US's most prestigious arts institutions, and alumni have won the Pulitzer Prize, as well as Tony, Emmy and Academy Awards.

FUND GIVES €1.77M TO PEACE PROJECTS

THE International Fund for Ireland has confirmed financial assistance of €1.77m for a range of peace-building and reconciliation projects in Northern Ireland and the six southern border counties.

The financial commitment includes €903,511 in the fund's Peace Impact Programme for community groups in Belfast, Derry, Lurgan, Coleraine and Dundalk.

AUTHOR MALONE TO LAUNCH LATEST NOVEL

Former soldier turned award-winning author Martin Malone launches his latest novel, Valley of the Peacock Angel (published by New Island), in Kildare Co Library, Claregate Street, Kildare, this Thursday, July 18, at 7pm. Guest speaker on the evening is Senator John Whelan.
