The reality host and Mrs Patrick Kielty has earned a new Emmy nomination, while Game of Thrones sweeps the board with 16 nods.

Those in the running for the 65th annual Emmy Awards were announced today by Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul and Neil Patrick Harris, who will host the ceremony on Sunday September 22.

TV show American Horror Story: Asylum topped the board, receiving mentions in the best miniseries, best miniseries/movie actress and best supporting actor and actress in a miniseries/movie categories. Next up was Game of Thrones with 16 nods, with Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra receiving 15 mentions.

Vying against American Horror Story: Asylum to be named best miniseries are The Big C, Phil Spector, Top of the Lake and Political Animals.

The horror TV show's main female star Jessica Lange is in the running for the best miniseries/movie actress alongside Laura Linney for The Big C, Dame Helen Mirren in Phil Spector, Elisabeth Moss for Top of the Lake and Sigourney Weaver in Political Animals.

The male version of the prize will either go to Benedict Cumberbatch for Parade's End, Matt Damon for Behind the Candelabra, Michael Douglas also for Behind the Candelabra, Toby Jones in The Girl or Al Pacino for Phil Spector.

In the running for the hotly anticipated best drama series gong are Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards and Mad Men.

Claire Danes has scored a nomination for best actress in a drama series thanks to her portrayal of Carrie Mathison in Homeland. She won the prize for the same role last year. Competing against her are Connie Britton, Michelle Dockery, Vera Farmiga, Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington and Robin Wright.

The male version of the prize will see either Bryan Cranston, Jeff Daniels, Hugh Bonneville, Damian Lewis, Jon Hamm or Kevin Spacey victorious.

Two more of Game of Throne's nominations came in the best supporting drama actor and actress categories, with Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklage both scooping nods.

30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Girls, Louie, Modern Family and Veep are in the running for the best comedy prize.

House of Cards actress Kate Mara had been scheduled to announce those in the running for prizes but had to pull out at the last minute.

"Kate Mara is unable to join us. She is on location in Santa Fe and late last night her flight had a mechanical malfunction and was unable to take off. She sends her sincerest regret," a statement explained.
