Carry on to Cavan for third year of fabulous food festival

There is a quiet but distinctive food revolution happening in Cavan. The combination of awarding-winning chefs and innovative food producers has now begun to reach critical mass with an enterprising food festival - Taste of Cavan - that attracts over 35,000 people to the county each August. Neven Maguire in Blacklion is a brightly-shining star, of course, but Gearoid Lynch in the Olde Post outside Cavan town is another local hero, as indeed is Richard Corrigan, now with Virginia Park Lodge, and of course Shane Smith, head pastry chef in Fallon and Byrne in Dublin, but Cavan born and bred. There are also plenty of innovative food producers to boast of, including Lakeland Diaries, Aine's Chocolates (founder Ann Rudden once created a chocolate guitar for Bono), Coole Swan, Moran's Homestore jams, and Silke Croppe and Corleggy cheeses. The two-day festival is now in its third year, a delightful, family-focussed event, taking place on the 7th & 8th August.
