I love all of Deborah Levy’s books — her short story collections, her novels and her memoirs — but it is Hot Milk that I recommend most to friends who are looking for something literary but also something that shimmers with psychological verve and mystery.

The heart of this Booker-shortlisted novel resides in the murky contested terrain of an enmeshed mother-daughter relationship and the consequential repressed identity of the daughter.
