WILL Young is heading to London’s West End to star in the stage show Cabaret.
The singer will play the part of the Emcee in the musical set in a Berlin nightclub as the Nazis rise to power.
Young, who found fame when he won Pop Idol in 2002, has acted with Dame Judi Dench in the film Mrs Henderson Presents and appeared on stage in Noel Coward's The Vortex at the Manchester Royal Exchange.
He said: "I am very excited about the challenge of choosing Cabaret as my first musical theatre role. The role of the Emcee is a part I have wanted to play since before I started training at Arts Education in Chiswick when I first moved to London."
The show was inspired by Christopher Isherwood's novels of pre-war Berlin and was made into an award-winning musical and a film famously starring Liza Minnelli as cabaret artist Sally Bowles.
Young said: "I have spent the last 10 years, singing, dancing and acting all separately. For the first time I get to do all three in one show. How could I not be excited."
The show opens in London on October 3 after a four week tour that takes in venues in Southampton, Nottingham, Norwich and Salford
