The Pleasure List: Our own reflection staring back at us
The Christmas lunch is naturally a time for reflecting and reminiscing. Every family has the back catalogue of myths and legends that are routinely trotted out around the table. The one about granny's ghost appearing in the flames of the Christmas pudding, or the year someone tried to extinguish a Christmas mantelpiece swag inferno with what looked like water but was, in fact, auntie Rose's gin and tonic (it was 10 in the morning).
This year, share the reminiscences of some of Ireland's biggest names in the Irish Hospice Foundation's new book The Gathering – Reflections on Ireland. The book details some of the many Gathering events that took place during 2013 with anecdotes and photographs chronicling what was a nationwide celebration of our Irish identity, and includes musings on what it means to be Irish from some of our fave people of 2013 including Simone Rocha, Katie Taylor, Brian O'Driscoll and the much loved Seamus Heaney. With this book the Irish Hospice Foundation aims to raise money to improve the infrastructure of hospitals across the country with the pioneering Design and Dignity Project. The Gathering – Reflections on Ireland is priced at €20 and is available from all good book stores and online at www.hospicefoundation.ie with all proceeds going directly to the IHF.
