Stones and Pyramids

New Irish Writing - Poetry

Dead boys lie in streets

strangely relaxed

mothers wail and try

to comfort the thin bodies

these boys will not be buried

with jewels or a cat

there will be no anointing

no wrapping up with bandages

coffins will be pulled

from the backs of trucks

fathers will beat their chests

in an exuberance of grief

on the news there will be warnings

of flash photography
