1 Sheridans are synonymous with quality food, particularly for their celebration of cheeses, which makes them obvious hosts for a food festival. And, hey presto, their Fifth Irish Food Festival ( opens tomorrow at their Virginia Road Station headquarters in Co Meath. All food will be Irish and special guests will include Ross Lewis and Richard Corrigan (pictured) .

2 The best short film festival in the land is closing, but it's going with a bang. The close of the 6th Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival ( opens today with a forum chaired by former censor John Kelleher and featuring Jim Sheridan and Philomena director Stephen Frears. This will be followed by Sir David Puttnam talking about working with Alan Parker.

3 A brand new one-woman play starring the excellent Ranae Von Meding and written by the playwright and actor Stewart Roche has just opened at the TheatreUpstairs in Dublin ( Variance promises to be an unflinching look at the darker, often hidden, fringes of domestic life. Directed by Audrey Rooney, expect to be unsettled yet gripped the whole way through.
