Sophie Gorman's picks the best upcoming events.
1 "Come not between the dragon and his wrath." Yes, King Lear is coming to town – well, kind of. Dublin Theatre Festival are working with the IFI to show the acclaimed cinematic production directed by Sam Mendes and starring Simon Russell Beale as the vainglorious king. This will be live-streamed from England's National Theatre next Thursday, tickets from the IFI (ifi.ie).
2 The harp is an instrument that should have a majestic standing but is often simplistically dismissed as being one for the lovely ladies. Musician Cormac De Barra will put paid to that notion. He joins Clannad's Moya Brennan to commemorate the Battle of Clontarf with a show for everyone aged four to 104 today at 3pm in Bray's Mermaid Arts Centre, mermaidartscentre.ie
3 There are actors and then there is the glory that is Don Wycherley, right. Playwright and director Michael Hilliard Mulcahy has cleverly cast Don in a one-man show, After Sarah Miles, so he can shine by himself. Don plays Bobeen, an Irish fisherman who struggles with the sea. It's on a nationwide tour, and in Dingle's Beehive Theatre next weekend, gallarusproductions.com.
