Dublin Gay Theatre Festival

1 Writer's block Tim O'Neill will present a four-day Introduction to Calligraphy workshop at the National Museum on Kildare Street, from Tuesday to Friday, based around eighth-century manuscript the Faddan More Psalter. Beginners are welcome and materials are supplied – but you will have to book. Nothing gets the girls quite like a bit of calligraphy, you know.

2 Gay history The Dublin Gay Theatre Festival is in full flow, and this Sunday producer Brian Merriman will chair 10 Years of Gay Theatre – a seminar looking back at the history of the festival, and some of the 2,000 works that have been performed. Kathleen Warnock, Alan Kinsella and Paul Ross will join him at Temple Bar's Exchange for a discussion.

3 Writing time More workshops! This time it's a three-day creative course with Mae Leonard, of RTÉ's Sunday Miscellany, that aims to examine various aspects of the creative writing process, including how to put your life story down on paper. It's on in the Limerick City Library from Monday to Wednesday. Booking essential.
