Fifty Shades of Grey may reach million mark
Erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey is on course to be one of the best-selling UK books.
The erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey, which has been dubbed 'Mommy porn', is on course to sell one million copies by the end of 2012 in paperback form.
The novel, by first-time author E.L. James, was the quickest paperback to reach the 550,00k mark and the fourth paperback novel to sell more than 100,000 copies in a single week. It is poised to top the Official UK Top 50 for a fourth consecutive week.
Fifty Shades of Grey traces the erotic relationship between a recent college graduate and a billionaire businessman. It originated from a piece of Twilight fan fiction and, thanks to its steamy plot line, has since sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. In America in recent weeks there has been a row over the decision by some libraries to ban the book, sparking online petitions and outcry from free speech groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union.
After a fierce bidding war involving several top studios, Universal and Focus Features captured the film rights to James' trilogy last March.
