F is for . . .

Funny -- French and comedy partner Jennifer Saunders became a team at drama college and their sketch show was given one of the BBC's highest ever budgets for comedy on TV. French's solo sitcom, The Vicar of Dibley, was not entirely a critical hit but immensely popular with audiences. Its finale was the second-most watched TV programme on British television in 2006.

Fat -- Although others have made an issue of French's large body size (to wit, Pat Kenny and his remark that he would pay her ten thousand pounds NOT to get out of bed), she herself is fairly nonchalant. The Dear Fatty of her memoir did not refer to French: it is addressed to her friend Saunders. "It amuses me that I call her Fatty when I'm the fat one," said French.

Family -- French always said she wasn't jealous of Saunders' success with Ab Fab because it gave her and then husband Lenny Henry time to get to know their newly-adopted daughter, Billie, now 18. French and Henry announced they were separating in April this year. She has dedicated A Tiny Bit Marvellous to her mum, Roma, but her final acknowledgement is to "Len and Bill".
