Instant Fires, the new novel from Andrew Meehan (his debut One Star Awake was longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize), is set in Germany in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup, and has at its core the themes of love and identity.

After a failed relationship with an Irishman she didn’t really love, Ute moves back home to Heidelberg to find that her father’s health has deteriorated and her mother is struggling to mind him.
