He's gone from Carrigstown to Hollywood and now Irish actor Eoin Macken is poised to launch his debut novel.

The 31-year-old, currently starring as an emergency room doctor on NBC series The Night Shift, will jet in to Dublin to launch Kingdom of Stars at Easons, Stephen's Green on October 2.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Eoin described the book as "a coming of age story about a 15-year-old boy in Dublin, going through his first experiences of drinking and sex and drugs".

He added, "All I've wanted to do is write. In school I just wanted to be a writer but I was afraid to be a writer because I felt I couldn't. It didn't really feel like my writing was interesting enough, so getting a book published was a huge kick."

Eoin will be familiar to fans of RTE soap Fair City, the show on which he cut his teeth as drug dealer Gavin Cluxton before landing roles in Merlin and |The Night Shift.

Eoin will film a second season of The Night Shift, and has recently spent time in Mozambique making a documentary for Sightsavers.

Kingdom of Stars is published by Poolbeg.
