Behind the lens

"One of my favourite images is from a recent commission in Kerry. I took this photo in November while I was on a recce for a shoot with the Healy-Raes. It's the break of dawn over the lakes of Killarney.

The team had travelled down the night before and we were up at 6.30 to have our breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the lakes. It was pitch black but as we ate dawn began to break and it was magical to watch the transition from dark to light. I don't normally take landscape photos but I was so captivated by the drama unfolding in front of me that I couldn't resist.

I composed the shot on the balcony of the hotel and it was only after I'd finished that I noticed almost every balcony was full with guests trying to capture the breathtaking scene. I think we all fell in love with Kerry that morning. I certainly did."
